Overview

The Multiplier model defines the target payout for each winning ticket as a multiple of the ticket price. Instead of defining the number of winning tickets, the lottery specifies a Target Multiplier. After the lottery draw is completed, the protocol calculates how many winning tickets can receive approximately the configured payout from the available Prize Pool. Since the number of winning tickets must always be a whole number, the actual payout multiplier may differ slightly from the configured value due to rounding. The Multiplier model is best suited for lotteries where the target payout relative to the ticket price is more important than the probability of winning.
The Multiplier model is available for Protocol Lotteries and User-Created Lotteries. It is not available for Super Lotteries because ticket purchases use CLT, while Super Lottery Prize Pools use the entry token of linked Protocol Lotteries.

Rules

  • Target Multiplier: 1.5×–10×
  • When the Prize Pool is greater than zero, at least one winning ticket is always selected.

How it works

When the lottery is created, the Target Multiplier is set relative to the ticket price. When the draw is finalized, the protocol calculates how many winning tickets can receive approximately the configured payout from the available Prize Pool. The winning tickets are then selected, and the Prize Pool is distributed equally among them.

Winning ticket calculation

The number of winning tickets is calculated using the following formula:
Where:
  • Prize Pool — Total value of the Prize Pool.
  • Ticket Price — Price of one lottery ticket.
  • Target Multiplier — Configured payout multiplier.
  • floor() — Rounds the result down to the nearest whole number.
  • max(…, 1) — When the Prize Pool is greater than zero, ensures that at least one winning ticket is selected.

Prize calculation

After determining the number of winning tickets, the Prize Pool is distributed equally among them.

Example

Configuration

  • Prize Pool: 10,000 USDC
  • Ticket Price: 10 USDC
  • Target Multiplier: 5×

Calculation

Final result

  • Winning Tickets: 200
  • Prize per Winner: 50 USDC
  • Actual Multiplier: 5×

Edge cases

Actual Multiplier above target

When the calculated number of winning tickets is rounded down, fewer winning tickets share the Prize Pool. As a result, each winner receives a slightly higher payout than the configured Target Multiplier.

Example

Configuration
  • Prize Pool: 100 USDC
  • Ticket Price: 9 USDC
  • Target Multiplier: 2×
Calculation
Result: The configured Target Multiplier is 2×, while the actual payout becomes approximately 2.22× because the number of winning tickets must be rounded down.

Actual Multiplier below target

If the calculation produces fewer than one winning ticket and the Prize Pool is greater than zero, the protocol selects one winning ticket. As a result, the actual payout multiplier may be lower than the configured Target Multiplier.

Example

Configuration
  • Prize Pool: 100 USDC
  • Ticket Price: 80 USDC
  • Target Multiplier: 2×
Calculation
Result: The configured Target Multiplier is 2×, while the actual payout becomes 1.25× because at least one winning ticket must always be selected.

Summary

The Multiplier model targets an approximate payout relative to the ticket price rather than a fixed number of winning tickets. After the lottery draw is completed, the protocol calculates the number of winning tickets based on the configured Target Multiplier and distributes the Prize Pool equally among them.
